Jesús Molina, Virtuoso Pianist & Global Ambassador of Music
- 5 min read
Just when music lovers are in great need of optimism and passionate creativity, a gifted young pianist from Colombia by the name of Jesús Molina has burst upon the scene – and through a newly released online course, music students have a chance to learn from this joyous musical ambassador. The latest offering from YousicPlay, a new online music education platform, in this course, Molina shares his passion for music, and tips for up and coming musicians seeking to bring a similar sense of freedom to their performance.
Winning first prize at numerous international jazz festivals, Jesús Molina’s story is a beautiful illustration of how far a passion for music can carry a young student. He began focusing on the piano only nine years ago, at the age of 15. Prior to that, out of a desire to please his mother –
and the love of music featured in his church – Molina began playing soprano and alto saxophone at the age of 12. In 2016, at the Latin Grammy Awards, Molina won a four-year scholarship to The Berklee College of Music in Boston – and he began offering masterclasses around the world.
In 2017, Jesús Molina released his first album – “For You” – and one year later, he was featured at the 5th annual jazz gala of the “Made in New York” Festival. At that prestigious jazz festival, Molina shared the stage with the legendary bassist John Patitucci and trumpeter Randy Brecker and others.
With his great charisma and engaging personality, Molina is a hit on social media – and his YouTube videos have been viewed more than 16 million times. His followers on Facebook and Instagram include jazz legends like Herbie Hancock and Arturo Sandoval.
In a testament to his truly global appeal, the Swedish musical instrument company Clavia has declared Jesús Molina “one of the rising stars on the international jazz scene,” and sponsors him as a “Nord Piano” artist.
Aside from simply enjoying the delightful musicality of his work – across a variety of musical styles – the question that most frequently comes to mind for those who watch him perform is “How does he do it?” Now, the detailed answer to that question can be found in a new 26-lesson online course on the YousicPlay platform. As YousicPlay founder Alain Merville describes it, the course is “a deep dive into the mechanics, the thought process, the inspiration and the essence of what he does.” The course takes students through Molina’s warm-up exercises, his left-hand exercises, different mirror techniques, and much more. The 26 video lessons featuring this talented pianist cover various music genres – jazz, gospel, bossa nova, and even funk.
Accompanying these video lessons are audio practice guides led by Alain Merville – himself a talented pianist and music professor at The Berklee College of Music. Included in the $199 fee for lifetime access to this comprehensive course is a digital course book and piano MIDI files, taking the student through the experience step-by-step. YousicPlay premiered this new online course on June 6th, and it is already winning rave reviews.
